Tarte Clay Pot Liners: Review and Swatches

The Tarte iconic clay pot liners have been revamped with its new stunning gold packaging and trendy shades that will definitely make a statement. The formula is infused with Amazion clay which allows for a long wear while nourishing the eyelids.

At first I was a little intimated by the bright hues of these liners especially the yellow one. However, I fell in love these shades when I swatched them. I’m really excited to create some colourful summer looks. These would be perfect for building a funky eye look for summer festivals. The yellow (Goldilocks) and blue (Unicorn Kisses) shades add the perfect pop of colour in my lower lash line and usually nothing ever lasts in my lower lash line because of my watery eyes. All the liners listed below are available on Tarte’s website except for ‘Mint’ which was one of the limited edition shades that was released. They are also available for sale at Sephora.

Formula:

The texture of the liners is very velvety and allows for an easy application across the upper and lower lash line. However, it can get a little messy on the eyes. If you apply too much product on your brush, the liner tends to go on your lashes (for me that is). This is all good if you like colourful lashes but I don’t. Once I apply mascara and lashes it masks this issue. Since you have to take a little at a time on your brush, it does take a few applications to get the desired look. Once the liner dries, it does not budge. All the shades I own dry to a matte finish with the exception of ‘Spirit Animal’ which has a shimmer finish. 'Spirit Animal' looks great as an eyeshadow as well.

Accordingly to Tarte, the formula works best with their etch & sketch double-ended bamboo liner brush to create a crisp thin line or dramatic cat eye. I tried their suggestion and I have to agree that it works better with their brush than an angled brush but it works just the same if you use a bent liner brush similar the Morphe 217 brush.
