Tarte Make Believe in Yourself Collection - Eye and Cheek Palette, Spellbound Glow Rainbow Highlighter and Sprinkle Face and Body Glitter, Clean Queen Deodorant and Magic Wands Brush Set
Inspired by kaleidoscopic colours, unicorns and all things whimsical Tarte is back with their summer 2017 collection. The collection features a new palette with 10 radiant eye shadows and an iridescent rainbow highlighter that is sure to bring fairy tails to life and have you ‘make believe in yourself’. Everything from the packaging to the unicorn gift paper it came wrapped in just screams fun. Today I'm excited to share swatches and my first impressions of the Make Believe in Yourself Eye and Cheek Palette, Spellbound Glow Rainbow Highlighter, Spellbound Sprinkle Face and Body Glitter, Clean Queen Vegan Deodorant and the Magic Wands Brush Set.
Make Believe in Yourself Eye and Cheek Palette ($40 USD/$52 CAD)
The palette includes 10 luminous shadows and an eye and cheek highlighter. It comes in a round compact similar to the brand's other palettes like the Rainforest of Sea and Blush Wheel palettes. It has a beautiful unicorn inspired design on the cover and a generous size mirror inside. The compact is sleek, lightweight and travel friendly. The majority of the shades are shimmers except for one matte shade. Most of the shimmers are pigmented with a metallic finish; some of which performed better than others. The formula is very soft with a gel like texture and contains Amazonian clay for long lasting wear and vanilla extract for a natural fragrance. The texture shadows look similar to the Huda Beauty textured shadows in the pan but don't perform as well. These shadows (Magic, Wings, Marvel and Trance) apply much better with your fingertips. Whereas shades Fairy, Mystic, Dream, Crystal and Pixie apply well with a flat synthetic brush. The matte shadow Myth, wasn't as pigmented as I would prefer. The 'Believe' highlighter shade in the center looks great as a brow bone and inner corner highlight and would look great on fair skintones.
Myth (matte nude)
Magic (bronze)
Wings (copper)
Marvel (metallic sage)
Trance (taupe slate)
Fairy (metallic lavender)
Mystic (blue pearl)
Dream (turquoise)
Crystal (iridescent champagne)
Pixie (golden pink)
Believe (pearl highlight)
Spellbound Glow Rainbow Highlighter ($30 USD/$39 CAD)
This rainbow highlighter consist of 4 iridescent shades that are inspired by make believe and mystical elements. The light pastel shades are meant to give an ethereal rainbow highlight to the cheeks. The plastic packaging is similar to the packaging on the brands blushes however, the pan spins which makes it hard to swatch individual shades but I didn't have this issue when picking up the product with a brush. The formula is very soft and looks frosty on my skin. There was hardly any colourful pigmentation which was very disappointing as I really wanted a rainbow highlighter since I seen pictures of the Wet n Wild highlighter on social media. It is more of a pearly white highlighter and I personally prefer more gold or pink tones. I found it worked better when applied with a wet brush. This highlighter is not meant to give you an in your face glow but more of a subtle one. Spellbound would be better suited for pale/fair complexions. Swatches are in the video below.
Clean Queen Vegan Deodorant ($14 USD/$17 CAD)
I was very intrigued to try an all natural deodorant since I never had before. The Clean Queen is part of Tarte's Athleisure line. It is an aluminum and alcohol-free deodorant that contains natural odor neutralizers with no harsh chemicals. The packaging is very cute with a purple and turquoise chevron design. It smells very refreshing like vanilla and has a cooling sensation upon application as it contains aloe. The scent is not very strong or sweet per say so if you prefer more strongly scented deodorants this may not be for you. It has a cream-to-powder formula that applies a thick white film to the skin but dissolves shortly after application and does not transfer to clothing. It passed the test during my workouts but it fades after a few hours. Touch ups are required so it's not recommended for all day wear.
Magic Wands Brush Set ($39 USD/$51 CAD)
These fairytale inspired makeup brushes are a limited edition set of five and are vegan and cruelty-free. Each brush has a gold unicorn-horn handle with beautiful pastel bristles. There is a contour, powder, foundation and two eyeshadow brushes. The bristles feel so luxe and soft.
This set contains: (via Tartecosmetics.com)
- Magenta contour brush - Dense flat bristles used to create a perfectly controlled contour, strobe, or highlight
- Pink powder brush - applies just the right amount of foundation or finishing powder for an airbrushed look
- Green blending eyeshadow brush - fluffy shadow brush defines the crease while blending out harsh lines
- Blue shading eyeshadow brush - flat shading brush packs on base shadows & softens around the crease
- Purple liquid foundation brush - dense, fluffy bristles pick up & apply cream or liquid foundations & primers
Spellbound Sprinkle Face & Body Glitter ($15 USD/$19 CAD)
I wasn't planning on picking this up but I seen someone on snapchat using it and it looked amazing. It's a micro fine glitter with light capturing mineral pigments that give a fairy like sparkle. It can be used on the face, hair and body. The container is small in size however a little goes a long way. It applies well with a wet brush or setting spray. The formula is non-chunky and it doesn't make any mess or create fallout. The glow it provides is stunning! It reminds me of the Artist Couture Diamond Glitter in Goal Digger. This is a great dupe at fraction of the price if you wanted to try those out.
Overall, I'm very pleased with everything I purchased from this collection with the exception of the Rainbow Glow Highlighter. I will continue to use it on days I prefer a subtle glow. I do however, wish it was more of a colourful (rainbow) highlighter as claimed, on me that is. The Eye and Cheek palette is a fun palette and I adore the rainbow hue shades. I don't think this is a stand alone palette as there isn't much transition or crease shades. I personally don't mind using multiple palettes to complete an eye look. The Clean Queen Deodorant is good to keep in your gym bag as a refresher and to be used on not so long days. I like that it is vegan with no harsh chemicals and I will continue to use it on light days. I absolutely love the brushes but I haven't had a chance to use them as I just picked it up during the Sephora VIB sale. I just love running my fingers over the soft and luxurious bristles. I will definitely get a lot of use out of the Spellbound loose glitter. This collection is available for sale at Tartecosmetics.com, Sephora and Ulta. I'm so glad I was able to purchase all of the above items at a discount at Tarte's Friends & Family sale and Sephora's VIB sale. I will have another post up with my VIB haul so stay tuned.
What did you pick up from this collection?
